About these maps

Civil War maps drawn from the battlefield survey

The Battlefields of the Civil War places each principal battle identified by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission where it was fought, with its date and result. The Civil War, Day by Day sets 379 dated battles on one timeline. The Great Campaigns traces the war's campaigns across the land, and The Union & the Confederacy shows the country as it divided in 1860–61.

Battle data comes from the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program, place coordinates from the USGS and the relief from satellite elevation. There are no flags on any of the maps.

Questions about these maps

Which Civil War map should I choose?

For the whole war at a glance, The Battlefields of the Civil War. For how the war moved, The Great Campaigns. For when each battle happened, The Civil War, Day by Day. The Union & the Confederacy shows how the country split before the fighting began.

Are these reproductions of old maps?

No. Each map is drawn new from research data (road and trail surveys, battle records, gazetteers and satellite elevation) and engraved in the manner of an 1889 atlas. Nothing is copied from an old map, and nothing on it is invented.

How are the prints made and shipped?

Each print is made to order by our partner Gelato at a printer near the delivery address, in the United States or in Europe, on archival matte paper. Framed prints arrive ready to hang. Production takes 2–5 business days; the delivery estimate for your address is shown at checkout.
