Questions & answers
Are these AI-generated maps?+−
No. Every road, trail, battle and place on our maps comes from a published research dataset, and the relief from satellite elevation data. We use AI only for illustrative room photographs and, on a few sheets (the coins, the family trees and the presidents), to help engrave portraits and coin drawings from reference images. Those sheets say so on their product page.
Are they reproductions of old maps?+−
No. Each map is drawn new from data and set in the style of a 19th-century atlas. Nothing is copied from an old map.
How accurate are the maps?+−
As accurate as the data behind them, and we show its limits. The Roman roads map, for example, marks every road as certain, conjectured or hypothetical, following the Itiner-e dataset. Every source is listed on the product page.
Who prints and ships the posters?+−
Our production partner Gelato prints each order on demand at a printer near the delivery address, in the United States or in Europe, which keeps shipping short. Production takes 2–5 business days; the delivery estimate for your address is shown at checkout.
Can I return a print?+−
Yes. You have 14 days after delivery to withdraw from your purchase, and a damaged or misprinted print is replaced free of charge. See our returns & refunds policy for how it works.
Do you ship outside the US and Europe?+−
For now we ship to the United States and to the European Union countries offered at checkout. Elsewhere? Email us and we will see what we can do.
